Proactive Parent

Supportive Parent

I am a parent whose child is interested in coding and technoloy.I want to introduce my child to coding and help them explore if tech education is right for them.

Homeschooling Parent

I am a parent whose child partakes in homeschooling or distance education.I want to ensure that my child is getting the right tech education. In NSW, this means achieving NESA outcomes for the applicable syllabus.

There's a course for that!

A little bit about us.

Hello World is an online college based in Sydney, Australia.

Our mission is to break down barriers to tech education so that anyone can learn how to code β€” and have fun along the way.

We aim to accomplish this by focusing on three elements: curriculum, engagement, and accessibility.

1. Curriculum.

We start by providing the ideal curriculum. We believe there are right and wrong ways to learn, and that begins with the educational material. To that end:

We partner with award-winning learning platforms like Grok Academy and Minecraft for Education. We align all of our courses to global standards like CSTA and ISTE, as well as local standards like NESA.Finally, we curate the essential concepts, the best courses, and the ideal learning paths β€” universally.

2. Engagement.

Next, we maximise student engagement. The best curriculum is useless if a student is not interested. To that end:

We only teach courses that are fun, interactive, and rewarding. Most of our courses are either set in a game world like Minecraft for Education, or involve making fun games like Space Invaders. We only deliver guided learning in real-time, not disconnected video material. All of our courses are taught by experienced tutors who mentor students through the activities and maximise their understanding -- at their own pace. And with our 5:1 student-to-tutor ratio, students are guaranteed the individual attention they need to excel. We personalise the learning journey. Each student is different, so we match them to the course that is just right for them, based on their age, experience, and aptitude.

3. Accessibility.

Last, but not least, we strive to make tech education as accessible as possible. That means breaking down barriers to education, as explained below.

Want more information? Feel free to contact us at any time.

Octobot

How we break down education barriers.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Geography

Barrier: Tutoring locations are often difficult to attend, for reasons ranging from remote residence to global pandemics.
Solution: Our courses are delivered 100% online, via Zoom video conferences. Students can participate from anywhere in Australia and receive the same high quality of education.

πŸ’Έ Affordability

Barrier: Tutoring is often expensive, especially for longer courses over multiple weeks.
Solution: Our model eliminates several overheads and we pass the savings to you. We also accept Afterpay to learn now, pay later. And if you live in NSW, you can use your Creative Kids voucher to pay less β€” sometimes nothing at all!

⏰ Availability

Barrier: Tutoring is often delivered at times that are inconvenient at best, impossible at worst.
Solution: We schedule as many cohorts as possible to accommodate any time that works for you. And if none of our schedules suit you, contact us with alternative times and we'll work something out.

πŸ‘©πŸΎ Diversity

Barrier: Online classes are often taught by one-size-fits-all tutors, which doesn't accommodate special requirements.
Solution: Our diverse team of tutors can accommodate any delivery requirements, from spoken language, to common background, to gender preference.

πŸ’» Resources

Barrier: Learning is often derailed when students lack access to suitable computers or workstations.
Solution: Our partner learning platforms accommodate as many computing devices as possible. And if your student does not have a computer, contact us and we'll send you a Google Chromebook for only $290.

πŸ”Ž More

As we continue to work with students, parents, and schools, we discover more barriers to education in general, and tech education in particular.

We constantly evaluate these problems and come up with solutions to allow education to prevail.

main() {
  printf("hello, world\n");
}

This is an example computer program from The C Programming Language, a book by Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie. The book was published in 1978, and is credited for making the phrase β€œHello, World” famous.

Nowadays, when people learn how to code in any language, β€œHello, World” is usually the first program they write.

A note on learning stages.

All of our courses are organised by the learning stage, which covers four key areas of development and education:

Stage 1: 6-10 Years OldStage 2: 11-14 Years OldStage 3: 15-18 Years Old
This also helps segment each student into the course that caters perfectly to their aptitude and experience level.

If you just want to see what coding is all about, try one of our free Hour of Code (HOC) sessions.

HOC is a global phenomenon that introduces coding to beginners through a fun, one-hour activity. Each activity is designed to demystify computer science and prove that anybody can learn the basics.

HOC officially occurs in December, but we run a session every Sunday morning, because we can. See you there!

Details and registration.

For schools and organisations.

Augment your curriculum.

In a nutshell, we work with your school or organisation to provide tech education to your students. We understand that you don't have a core competency in teaching coding and other forms of technology. That's where we come in. Tech education is all we do, and we do it well (if we say so ourselves).

Choose your adventure.

With Hello World, we give you the flexibility to choose your own adventure: School Mode, Club Mode, or both.School Mode happens in the classroom, during the school day. It's quite formal, and integrates tightly with your timetable.Club Mode happens at home, after school hours. It's a bit less formal, but that's the only difference. Both modes provide the same outcome β€” it comes down to which mode works best for your needs and your students' circumstances.

Sit back and relax.

When you delegate tech education to our team, we handle all the hard work on your behalf. We onboard your students to our education platforms, allocate them to the appropriate courses, and ensure that they are not only learning, but also having fun.We take care of registrations, payments, tech support, academic progress, completion certificates β€” the works. At the end of our collaboration, you get a full report from us on how things went, and we work with you to continuously improve how we work together.

You're in the Hour of Code!

We hope your student enjoys the session.

Quick note, while you're here. We founded Hello World during the COVID-19 pandemic to break down barriers to tech education. That's why we offer free coding classes like the Hour of Code.

But that's not all we do. We also run longer coding courses alongside the NSW school term. Check out our course catalog, if you're interested.

See you soon!

β€” Staff, Hello World

Finished the Hour of Code and want more?

Thanks for joining our free Hour of Code session. We hope it gave your student a fun introduction to coding and inspired them to keep learning.

If you're interested in more coding action, we run longer courses aligned with the NSW school year. Our holiday bootcamps are coming up in June, and our Term 3 courses in July. Check out our course catalog for details.

Happy coding!
